Day Two: ICD-10-CM Coding

Wednesday, April 12, 2023 |  8:30am-4:30 pm CST

Change is the name of the game and 2023 is no different with many new ICD-10 coding updates that went into effect Oct. 1, 2022, plus changes in the home health payment system. Join our McBee experts in this intermediate coding class as they discuss diagnosis coding in PDGM, including the impact of the primary diagnosis and comorbidities on payment calculation and claim submission.  

Attendees will explore the connection between accurately addressing code selections in care planning. Lastly, attendees will dive into home health and hospice coding practice, F2F issues, and common misunderstandings will be clarified with plenty of scenarios and tools to increase your accuracy in ICD-10 coding.

  • Explain the role of diagnosis coding in the home health payment model  

  • Identify new codes and guidelines effective October 1, 2022  

  • Identify compliance issues related to coding accuracy

Speakers

Lisa Selman-Holman JD, BSN, RN, HCS-D, COS-C, HCS-OVice President of Quality & Education at McBee, brings more than 35 years of experience in the home health & hospice industry, specializing in regulatory compliance, both as an RN and a home care attorney. Lisa founded Selman-Holman & Associates and CoDR (Coding Done Right), a coding outsource and audit company in 2004. Lisa has a wide range of regulatory experience in home health and has served on numerous committees and task forces. Selman-Holman was recently acquired by McBee in July 2021. In her role as VP of Education and Quality, Lisa leads the quality audit team to ensure the highest-level of accuracy in coding and clinical documentation internally at McBee and externally for clients nationwide. She will expand McBee’s educational offerings, including live events and on-demand online trainings through the McBee Post-Acute Academy. 

Michelle Horner BSN, RN, HCS-O, HCS-D, HCS-H, COS-S is the Manager of Post-Acute Education for McBee. She has more than 30 years of experience in healthcare with an extensive background in critical care and home care. Michelle has been instrumental in the content creation for the McBee Post-Acute Academy. She currently specializes in Quality, Clinical, and Regulatory Consulting and Education. Michelle develops and provides custom on-site client education programs. She speaks regularly for various home care associations. Her expertise regularly appears in the Decision Health Diagnosis Coding Pro and she is a subject matter expert contributor for several Decision Health publications. Michelle currently serves on the AHCC’s Board of Medical Specialty Coding and Compliance Certification HCS-D and HCS-O Committees.
